Process

My fused glass landscapes are composed of multiple layers of clear sheet glass, and colored crushed glass called frit. I use a torch to form delicate strings of glass to include in the compositions as trees and branches. The completed pieces are all glass with no paint involved. The artwork undergoes around 14 kiln firings, with repeated applications of sheet glass, frit, and stringers. The result is a 1 inch thick glass panel with a 3D image. Finally, they are slump-fired to achieve a free standing shape. LED back lighting is included.

Statement

It’s my intent to render the beauty of God’s creation into glass. My interpretation of nature is focused more on emotion than just reality. I want the viewer to cross a threshold and enter a tranquil place where they can leave distractions behind, even for just a moment.
